Trullo Sotterraneo is a charming, leisure place, located in Monti district of Alberobello. The Trullo Sotterraneo (that means underground room) is the result of a desire of Daniela and Leonardo, two young entrepreneurs who together decided to renovate and to enhance the family-owned Trullo, inherited from father to son over three generations. The Trullo Sotterraneo is the ideal place to spend magical moments; here every tourist can share stories, experiences and emotions.
Trullo Sotterraneo is located in a small closed street renamed “Il vicolo degli Aforismi” that literally means “The street of the Aphorisms”; it is divided into two floors: there are two conical rooms on the upper floor, and an underground room with a barrel vault; this part of the Trullo wasn’t used as a simple cellar, it was an important room, because it accommodated the the large family that lived there.
You can start the visit of the Trullo on the upper floor: here you can admire the two domes and the whole structure which remained in their original state from the 1600s. The underground part is accessed from the outside through a small door and along an ancient staircase. The Trullo has been renovated according to the Unesco regulations in force in the area and today boasts the name of Trullo Sotterraneo to keep its history, the generational passage and the strong bond of the current owners with the territory and their roots alive.
Inside the Trullo Sotterraneo, in a familiar atmosphere, it is possible to admire a laboratory and a showroom dedicated to local craftsmanship, or to the processing of “chiancarella” stone (a typical local white stone) with which the craftsman Leonardo creates magnificent customized miniature trulli that are not simple souvenirs but they want to tell the travel experience, the emotion and the time lived in Alberobello by each visitor.
